Statement for the Winter (Christmas) Concert

Am I now the Jew that learned to love Christmas?

Here the text I just sent to the school to introduce their school concert:

Welcome students, families and community members to our winter concert. Our students and staff have worked very hard to bring this concert together and we hope very much that you enjoy it.

During the preparations for this concert we became aware that most of our efforts were focussed on the celebration of Christmas. Christmas is a wonderful holiday and in it we have tried to really emphasize the universal messages of peace and togetherness. However, as a school we would like to do more to bring other cultures and traditions to the forefront of people's minds. We welcome students, parents and community members to approach the school with information about their festivals and holidays and we will endeavour, in the future, to make our school a place that truly celebrates the diversity of our population.

Please enjoy the show!

I'm curious to see what they make of it.

  1. When are you going to address the issue of out-of-control consumerism that seems to be the driving force behind North American "Winter Festivals"? How long can Mother Earth withstand such abuse?

  2. Santa Claus. Brought to you by the proud sponsors of such world class events as « Rise of the Third Reich », « World War Two » and « Mutual Deterrance Policy ». Enjoy!
